21st Century Democrats Endorses Mark Ritchie for Minnesota Secretary of State

Washington, DC - Today, 21st Century Democrats endorsed Mark Ritchie for Minnesota Secretary of State. Ritchie was first elected Secretary in 2006, and during his time in office he has demonstrated great leadership. As a result of his non-partisan actions during the 2008 U.S. Senate recount, Ritchie was named the 2008 Politician of the Year by Politics in Minnesota, the state's largest political news journal. He was also named the 2008 Most Valuable State official in the United States by The Nation. Since the headline-making U.S. Senate recount, Ritchie has continued to advocate for reforms that will maintain the integrity of the system and make voting easier for Minnesotans.

Ritchie's dedication to Minnesotans began long before serving as Secretary of State. In the 1980s, he served in the Minnesota Department of Agriculture, working to address the economic crisis threatening family farms and rural communities. He later served as the president of the Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy from 1988 to 2006.

"Mark Ritchie has worked to ensure fairness in voting," said Jim Scheibel, Chairman of 21st Century Democrats. "I trust that he will continue to uphold this sense of integrity and serve responsibly as Minnesota Secretary of State."

21st Century Democrats is a Washington, D.C., based grassroots-oriented political action committee that endorses and helps elect progressive Democrats.
