As a native of Baltimore and 7 year resident of Reservoir Hill, Fred has deep roots and a profound sense of dedication to the city of Baltimore. “We have the capacity and the ability to educate children and adults, to rebuild the areas that are falling down, to have safe communities, and to have meaningful employment for all who can work.” He believes that through inclusion and cooperation between government and the residents of Baltimore that his vision is not just a dream, but an achievable and sustainable reality.
So, what does Fred plan to do to achieve his bold vision? He wants to make Baltimore a center of health, learning, and employment for currently depressed sectors of the urban population because he believes healthy cities are the key to a strong nation. Fred wants to guarantee that urban and rural schools resources are equal to suburban schools and make public higher education free because he believes a granting a solid education to our youth opens the door to national growth.
Fred believes that a healthy sustainable environment where we are able to live and work comfortably is the bedrock on which we are able to achieve all other things. In order to reduce energy consumption, Fred wants to reduce per capita energy consumption by 50% by creating and enforcing standards on everything from transportation, and construction, to manufacturing. He also plans to offer incentives to retrofit existing buildings and re-engineer existing processes to promote energy conservation.
The call to service runs deep in the veins of Fred Mason as the grandson of a public educator and the son of a city attorney and president of the Maryland and DC AFL-CIO. Fred has been surrounded by stellar role models of public service and is ready to lead by those examples. His legacy of service is only surpassed by his own proven dedication to the people of Baltimore. While at the State of Maryland’s Office of Capital Budgeting, he worked on major projects such as the Hippodrome, the Reginald F. Lewis Museum, and other housing and economic development programs vital to the city. Currently, he is a project architect with Gaudreau, Inc. and works primarily on education projects. However, his service extends beyond the professional arena. Fred has proven a deep commitment to the well-being of Baltimore through his volunteer work with Sandtown Habitat for Humanity and Reservoir Hill Citizens on Patrol.
Like his family before him, Fred Mason is ready to take on difficult tasks and tackle the obstacles that will surely arise from pursuing such great aspirations. However, he sees public office not as an occasion to take credit, but as an opportunity to produce change and create impact on serious issues such as crime, education, economic development, and neighborhood revitalization.
