“The future I envision is one where every child starts out on the same playing field and is given the same opportunities to excel, no matter what economic background they come from.”
Janet Oleszek knows Fairfax County. As a resident of central Fairfax County since 1972, she knows what issues are important to the parents and the families of Fairfax. As a member of the Fairfax County School Board since 2003, she knows that many of the problems facing the Fairfax education system have the same root causes as other problems in the state. As a person with passion, a vision and a commitment to make the state a better place for her children, Janet knows that she can help fix those problems.
While on the School Board, through persistence and compromise, she shepherded the most important policy change Fairfax schools have seen in a generation: the implementation of full day kindergarten for all of Fairfax’s elementary schools. In addition to that, she worked to give greater resources to the schools that deal with troubled students and is currently working to change the school start time for teenagers from around 7:15am to 8:30am, when teens can more easily learn.
The incumbent in the 37th District Senate seat that Janet is running against does not represent the values of Fairfax. He is far too concerned with his far right-wing social agenda to focus on the issues that matter to the citizens of Fairfax. Janet will focus on solutions to real problems, like transportation, education, health care and the environment.
Janet wants to invest more in mass transit, fully fund our education system, make sure every child has health insurance and steer Virginia’s government towards greener technologies. These are solutions that will help the people of Fairfax in their everyday life. These are solutions that will make Northern Virginia a better place for future generations.
There are clear distinctions between the two candidates in this election. Janet represents pragmatism, results and a better place to live. The choice is clear. That is why the Twenty-First Century Democrats are excited to endorse Janet Oleszek for State Senate.
