Matt also has a visionary proposal for funding college education: serve the community for two years and attend a Vermont public university for free. In addition to expanding the reach of technology in Vermont, Matt continues a traditional Democratic fight: eliminating poverty. He served as director of the AmeriCorps/VISTA program for more than two years. As director he led more than 6,000 volunteers at the front lines of the some of our country’s most needy communities. AmeriCorps/VISTA is the largest federal government agency dedicated solely to recruiting volunteers and disseminating them across the country to provide necessary services. Matt served under both a Democratic and Republican administration during his tenure.
